The Above Linkblogs Might Contain "Borrowed" links.
Linkblogs do not substantially contribute traffic to my blog that I can discover. They all go offsite, and are often accessed from my blog. It's possible to access them from the RSS according to my settings. Still, even if I were to get ads clicking on a linkblog from the RSS won't drive more people to my blog than otherwise because they leave my resources. (Note to self, do more posts, less LBs with sources I find). I explain because I sometimes borrow links from people at Twitter, and often forget who put them up. (To fellow Twitterers: If you have a link to your blog, I will point it there, but Twitter, being impermanent, cannot hold your link for people to discover from there. I only 'borrow' them to get news out to as many people as I can who might not have seen the reports and videos found by the smart people I follow at Twitter or find in search rooms.RSS Add-Me
AU Says Boat Tracking Japanese Whalers Won't Be Armed
We didn't say they had to use the guns
Though we might have been hoping that they'd brandish them about a bit.
As articles I linked to showed the real reason for the Oceanic Viking to be tracking the fleet is to gather information, along with aircraft according to Environment News Service
The Environmental News Service believes that the Japanese whaling fleet works in the Antarctic Marine Sanctuary, a claim that Greenpeace and Sea Shepard often make. Japan's fisheries departments claim they work just outside of the sanctuary. I believe it would actually be illegal for them to work within it.to conduct surveillance of Japanese whaling ships and gather photo and video evidence in preparation for legal action.
Smith said, "It'll be surveillance, not enforcement or interdiction or intervention for the purposes of that surveillance, the customs boarding party will not be armed, and the Ocean Viking will not be armed."
Meanwhile, in the next few days the Australian government will formally urge Japan to end the slaughter of whales in the Southern Ocean.
The Los Angeles Times notes in "Australia to tail Japanese whalers":
The Australian craft are to collect photographic and video evidence to be used to decide whether Australia will launch legal action to try to stop Japan's whaling, Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said.
Smith also said Australia would lead a group of anti-whaling nations in lodging a formal protest with Japan against its plans to harvest more than 1,000 whales, including 50 humpbacks, in its largest whale hunt conducted in the name of science.
