We heard June 17th for nearly a month now, but apparently the ability to wed your same sex love was to become legal as of 5 pm today, which is usually closing time for the clerks' offices.
So "at least 5 county clerks around the state extended their hours to honor specific couples or to mark the historic occasion, and many couples exchanged vows on the spot" as an AP report at Yahoo News "Dozens of gay couples wed in Calif. after ruling" put it.
It was all that was talked about on our local Public radio stations and even poked itself into the podcasts I listen to when working. If I remember correctly Kai Ryssdal missed talking about it. I'm guessing they'll figure out the money angle in a few days.
There are lots of pictures and a couple of videos available from the Yahoo News site.
I have lots of friends for whom this is a great day.
