We still don't know the name of the other friends, but according to the New York Daily News, the fatal victim of Tatiana, died because he distracted the animal while it was attacking one of the brothers.
Excerpt report "Wall containing tiger was 4 feet short ":
A police source said one of Carlos Sousa's friends was first attacked in front of the grotto by the leaping cat. The source said Carlos ran toward the tiger yelling in an attempt to distract her.
When the animal lunged onto Carlos, his friend was able to escape with his brother, leaving a trail of blood, the source said.
After killing Carlos, the tiger tracked down the brothers 300 yards away, mauling them.

As cops continued to investigate what provoked the ferocious feline to leap from her enclosure, they were analyzing a shoe print found on the railing of the protective wall. Police Chief Heather Fong said the print was being compared to the victims' shoes.
Detectives have not ruled out the theory that one of the victims taunted the tiger, but Fong said no evidence "at this time tells us a leg was flung over the railing." She said the shoe print could have been left by a visitor unrelated to the incident.
The other victims, a 19-year-old man and his 23-year-old brother, remained in stable condition last night at San Francisco General Hospital.
