Reports are saying that a local leader has written a letter asking for a doctor to treat Al Qaeda's number two leader, Ayman al Zawahiri, who, the note said suffered apparently serious injuries that had become infected. CBS, which claims an exclusive though obviously the story has spread, says that letter was sent the day after the strike into Pakistan which the US says killed Abu Khabbab al Masri, al Qaeda's WMD master.
Though, of course the US is currently using unannounced strikes into Pakistan, after Obama said he would use the tactic, John McCain questioned his judgment in doing so. Therefore, I believe that using the name "Obama Raid" for the strikes will easily show the difference between the two candidates.
In fact, the Bush administration seems to have stepped up the raids since Senator Obama announced that he would support using the tactic. Now, we know the Bush administration did not start using the strategy more because Barack Obama called for them. Ao there must be an important advantage in using the strikes. Funny, how a freshman senator should know that. I guess it's was a strategy that came from Team Obama's 300 foreign policy, military, and security team of experts to which the senator listens just as he promised he would listen to other people.
The CBS report (because of the severity of the apparent wounds?) surmises that Zawahiri might already be dead.
