According to an AP report at Yahoo.com "
Europe seeks to tighten some online laws" Germany and the Netherlands have created proposals for Parliament to outlaw giving false information when signing up for email or to create a web site.
Worse yet, this is to comply with a 2009 EU directive "
to implement its Data Retention directive, which calls for storing names and addresses of Internet subscribers, including those who use Web-based e-mail accounts."
As the report notes this smacks of police state ("Orwelian") and we will likely see the proposals vigorously opposed. But stil the EU directive apparently stands waiting for 2009.
