People want to believe in John McCain, but politicians don't start the kind of campaign battle based on lies that McCain-Palin has devolved into.
And once again, McCain comes up with Whoppers, this time on the economy and how to fix it.
To pass on what the Times analysis says about the latest McCain ad on the economic crisis.
Excerpt "McCain, on the Economy ":
PRODUCER Foxhole Productions
THE SCRIPT Voice of Mr. McCain: “You, the American workers, are the best in the world. But your economic security has been put at risk by the greed of Wall Street. That’s unacceptable. My opponent’s only solutions are talk and taxes. I’ll reform Wall Street and fix Washington. I’ve taken on tougher guys than this before.” Announcer’s voice: “Change is coming. John McCain.”
Where do they get all this blather? I have some things to says about it too, but first lets see how the Times handles it.
ACCURACY According to a 2007 study by the International Labor Organization, workers in Norway are the world’s most productive (when measured on an hourly basis), followed by the United States and France. Mr. Obama has offered detailed proposals on the economy, for stemming the mortgage default crisis and channeling investment into activities that will generate new jobs. He would raise capital gains taxes as well as income and Social Security taxes on those earning more than $250,000 a year, but the notion that he would also increase taxes on middle-class voters has been repeatedly debunked. Studies have found that Mr. Obama would offer most Americans a tax cut three times the size of what Mr. McCain proposes. Finally, Mr. McCain’s record has favored deregulation of the financial industry, a factor that analysts say has contributed to the credit crisis, and opposed creation of a government agency to oversee Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.
And in fact, McCain has called for more deregulation while he poses as a sheriff who's going to clean up corruption on Wall Street. Shhh. Don't tell him that he'd need more regulations to begin to fix what is wrong on Wall Street and there are things wrong, but not everything is "magical corruption"! Some things are just over deregulated. Oh, I see. If he put the blame where it belongs he'd have to admit he and the fat cats behind him that want deregulation are a big part of the reason we are in such a mess.
If change is coming then it's change in McCain's lies, but little else.
He also called for a 911 hearing on the economy, so he won't have to do anything for the two years while the matter is being studied.
If businesses can't get financing then we won't have jobs to be great workers, Mr McCain.
You need to know what to do right now, not years down the line!
Also, sir, we tried deregulation. It doesn't work so don't try that old canard again, please.
