Excerpt Al Jazeera article "
Japan whalers 'may abort hunt'" ( The link was offered by Google news, okay????? It also had unique information on a subject that I assume they are not likely to be biased about. Otherwise I find that A-J uses too much Flash and complicated design of content, and slows down the computer. I blame al Qaeda.)
Japan's annual whaling season could be cut short if the lead ship in the Japanese fleet which was crippled by fire on Wednesday, has to dock for repairs, fisheries officials in Tokyo have said.
Hajime Ishikawa, an official at Japan's Institute of Cetacean Research, said the remainder of the hunting season would depend on "the extent of damage".
Ishikawa said it would be difficult to hunt if the Nisshin Maru needed repairs as it was "the only vessel able to process [the captured whales]".The fleet had planned to hunt up to 945 whales in the annual Antarctic whaling season which runs between mid-December and mid-March.
Reports have the Nissin Maru drifting towards penguin hatcheries.
More from the A-J report (and others):
- Whaling countries are accusing anti-whalers of "imperialism" for dictating conditions on something that affects the whole world. Ergo then the Kyoto Pact is the same isn't it? Lets take it from those people who invaded nearly all of Asia and the Pacific in their search for oil and other natural resources half a century ago.
- Japan vows to quit the IWC. Well that will save them from dumping millions into small nations to buy votes.
