Monica Youn makes a good case that the fact that Judge Sonia Sotomayor was virtually forced to publicly make a statement on why her gender and ethnicity makes her a better judge putting her on the spot in a manner that could be embarassing in future confirmation periods.
And as shown by my title above, she shows that the societal demand that the judge make some kind of statement on her effectiveness due to her heritage and sex is, in itself a form of bigotry.
