I think the audience was supposed to keep quiet, but after this bit they couldn't hold back their laughter. All Sarah Palin's talking points couldn't match this.
According to a Newsweek article I was reading the other, "
Got Insurance?", day Joe Biden is actually correct or even a little modest: John McCain's health care plan will cause 21 million people to lose their health care coverage from their employer in the first year alone. Newsweek though also counters with something they might have gotten from the McCain camp which says:
About 21 million higher-income people would take the tax credits and buy their own insurance. So it would be a wash in the first year.
Excuse me? How many higher income actually go without health insurance. I don't know any. They either get better coverage than most through their work or they are already purchasing it. I don't see 21 million (about 1/4 of the number of people who usually vote for president every 4 years, IIRC) of affluent means but without insurance. Maybe they would switch their insurance coverage, but go from no insurance to being insured. Yeah, right.
Sometimes Mainstream News works too hard to seem 'balanced' and therefore ends up not reflecting reality. In fact, I know that Barack Obama never promised universal health insurance. That is what Hillary Clinton and John Edwards were promising by forcing people by penalty of law to buy it. That was the deal killer for me on Hillary, especially when I knew how much money she got from the health insurance industry to jump start her campaign. Obviously, they were counting on getting a whole lot more back.
