Al-Qaeda's Hand In Istanbul Plot
Journalist Karl Vick, who seems to specialize in such reports, makes it half way down the page before he inserts the Rovian explanation that the bombs that hit Istanbul in November 2003 were the results of plots that started long before the US invaded Iraq. The participants were also people who had visited al Qaeda training camps in the 1990s. You remember the 90s when Clinton wanted to bomb the training camps, but the right wing howled first that they were just pounding dirt. I guess a lot of that dirt was passing out instructions to terrorists. BTW, the plot might have been conceived before the invasion of Iraq, but obviously, much of the US intelligence community was occupied elsewhere after the Bush people made the decision in the summer of 2002 to invade the oil rich nation. Otherwise, maybe they would have helped our ally stave off the attack. We expect our allies to help us, but we should be helping others in return instead of invading nations for resources. Why should our allies continue to try to help us when we use our strength to destroy other nations? Now that we know how much the Bush administration manipulates the news, you have to wonder.
Ex-CIA official may face charges Excerpt: Prosecutors are seeking charges of honest services fraud and conspiracy against Kyle "Dusty" Foggo, the No. 3 official at the CIA until his resignation in May, and San Diego defense contractor Brent Wilkes, two government officials familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press.
But Foggo played Little Jack Horner in more than one way. Also see: Water Deal Illuminates Secret Contracts Suddenly the booze and sex parties at the Watergate are beginning to pale in comparison.
Meanwhile, a special meeting of the International Whaling Commission is underway in Tokyo today, with host Japan and like-minded countries hoping the gathering will build momentum to resume commercial hunting.Japan insists its controversial annual whale hunt in the Southern Ocean is for scientific purposes, but admits the whale meat ends up on restaurant tables.
Japan has made no secret of its desire to resume commercial whaling, and hopes to use today's meeting to shift the commission's focus to whale management rather than a moratorium.
But with some 26 anti-whaling nations - including Australia, New Zealand and the United States -boycotting the meeting, prospects for dialogue in the polarised organisation appear slim.
Thirty-four of the commission's 72 members were attending and another two expected to show up at the three-day meeting, which Japanese officials have termed a final attempt to save the commission by drafting proposals to submit at its annual meeting in May.
The report also notes that Japan is considering returning to commercial whaling after the IWC meeting in May. We already know that the Japan can't even sell all the meat from the whales they slaughter now as Japanese no longer have a taste for the food and one enterprising company tested making dog food out of it. I suppose they can ship it to the US pretending it is somekind of sea food that people actually want to eat.
Wait a minute, a Japanese whaler causes an accident yesterday and then cries about being "attacked", and today the Japanese controlled IWC is starting it's meeting. Are you getting a picture here?
