Ooops!
Though the first reports didn't show any Israeli complicity in Stewart David Nozette's past, there appears to be a direct line from the Israeli government to information extraction from the aerospace scientist.
Officials in Jerusalen denied ever spying on friendly nations in a radio statement as reported by the Jerusalem Post "'No Israeli espionage or intelligence gathering in friendly states'".
And indeed, the first reports I read did not have any information tha would show that the Israeli government was involved in extracting classified information.
See AFP: "US scientist charged with attempted spying for Israel " for report on the sting and the clearances the scientist had.
But a Bloomberg report shows Nozette was paid by an aerospace company owned by the Israeli government for going in once a month and giving technical advice.
Though the Bloomberg report does not say if any of that information was classified, Mr. Nozette was very willing to pass on classified information to the FBI Agent that recruited him while posing as a member of Mossad starting in September. The kinds of secrets Nozette was willing to divulge in the sting, and his extensive resume and security clearance get pretty scary when you know he also went overseas with 2 thumbnail drives that he apparently didn't bring back with him last January. The nation to which he traveled was not released apparently, but somehow I doubt it was The Republic of Fiji.
