Well, no, don't relax because if we let them get away with this, then no AG in any state will feel free to investigate Big Money sources whether they are stealing money from you, retirement accounts, little old ladies, or young hopeful people who think that they can get a square deal from the music business.
Nor will candidates and politicians dare to defy the Big Money sources.
Some of those Big Money people that might be involved in "getting Spitzer" are shown by a passage in an AP report "Scandal Puts Spitzer's Career in Danger":
Spitzer clashed with Wall Street executives throughout his two terms as attorney general. Among other things, he uncovered crooked practices and self-dealing in the stock brokerage and insurance industries and in corporate board rooms, and went after former New York Stock Exchange chairman Richard Grasso over his $187.5 million compensation package, calling it unreasonable.
Also from NY Times "Spitzer Allegations Send Wave of Shock":
...Wall Street, where the animosity lingers. Traders remember that when he was the state attorney general, he cemented his reputation with the aggressive prosecution of high-powered executives for insider trading and other violations of the securities laws.
And, even recently, apparently, an investigation that Spitzer started has actually come to the point where artists and others are willing to talk about the payola that keeps young musicians from getting airplay unless they have the big bucks to pony up. The ABC video report on this is dated 3/10/008.
I also remember reading in the pre Zell LA Times that Spitzer had taken on those credit repair companies that were ripping people off big time. Apparently many of them are actually allied with the original credit companies that are ripping us off in the first place.
But still Governor Spitzer did the crime so he should resign right? Eh? Eh? 'no' wad i mean?
Yeah, just like Governor Schwarzenegger was investigated and resigned for allegations of groping unwilling women and attempted statuatory rape of underage girls. He promised to have himself investigated and then reneged on that. Where were the other investigations? I don't care if the women didn't bring charges because Schwarzenegger is so powerful in Hollywood which each one had a career stake in. If a governor may have molested women shouldn't it be investigated by authorities?
But, of course the convenient monetary infractions in this case are more serious than the prostitute, right?
According to ABC report "It Wasn't the Sex; Suspicious $$ Transfers Led to Spitzer":
Spitzer, who made his name by bringing high-profile cases against many of New York's financial giants, is likely to be prosecuted under a relatively obscure statute called "structuring," according to a Justice Department official.
Structuring involves creating a series of financial movements designed to obscure the true purpose of the payments.
Oh, you mean like former NYC Mayor Guiliani when he hid the funds by which he had the NYPD ferry around his then girlfriend, Judith Nathan, and even walk her dog? Only he did it with city funds.
Where's that investigation?
Another report mentioned that some of the funds from Spitzer ended up in shell companies in off shore locations.
Well, isn't that nice, then we know the IRS is going to be getting all those fat cats and corporations which they swore they couldn't catch cheating on their taxes because the money gets switched around through off shore shell companies. That should help our national debt.
Ha, Ha. Like we'll ever see those investigations.
"You can't tax the rich" (George W. Bush 2004 during his reelection campaign)
And everyone knows that the IRS is completely impartial in investigating people, right? Well, except for during the Nixon years. But now we don't have people in power who would or could maybe get them to do it again, right? Of course not. The wonderfully unbiased mainstream press continues with 2-6 examples each time it reports on the matter to assure us that this no longer happens. They sound just like they did when they assured us that payola doesn't happen in this nation anymore.
Some reports are just dripping with malice, playing the story up as something to be held with two fingers. Many of them mix the facts of the case against the prostitution ring with the actual facts of what the governor did.
One (first page linked above) at least has some rebuttal on the second page of the web report, right after insinuating that people Spitzer investigated are too scared to speak up.
“As long as he’s doing his job, who cares?” said Laverne Lott, a retail consultant for Sprint who lives in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. “We’ve all got skeletons.”
And there were those who complained of too much information. “Unless he was using New York State money for the prostitute, it’s none of our business,” said Anthony Serrano, the manager of a shoe store in downtown Brooklyn.
Of course, analysis sources say that people reading their news on the web seldom click through to the second page. And TV news never gets that far. Even talk shows, feature "experts" that just repeat mostly what the convenient news speak that mainstream wants said.
And the sources all like to play on the fact that AG Spitzer brought down a prostitute ring as AG. They don't know if that ring was particularly abusive to its women or anything much about the difference in the two cases. In fact, they seem to be using the kinds of news that just happens to be lying around instead of really investigating that.
And that all works to the advantage of Big Money who got its toes stepped on by Spitzer and intended to get him back.
To break the cycle dump Big Money candidates.
There is a difference between lots of smaller donations adding up, and getting the donations from the Big Money sources.
Two of this year's presidential candidates are Big Money candidates, and one's coffers are filled with donations mostly from little people like you and I.
If one of the Big Money candidates wins, then politics and our lives will continue to be controlled by Big Money to the point of waging war because they want more resources.
I suggest we donate, work, and vote to make sure the other candidate wins and just say "no" to Big Money.
That will help our politicians develop spines when facing the demands from all donors, and help our authorities to investigate everyone fairly, and maybe even get the mainstream news to report on everyone fairly.
Whadya' think?
