Excerpt "Obama defeats McCain in critical Pennsylvania vote "
Democrat Barack Obama won a big victory over Republican rival John McCain Wednesday in Pennsylvania, one of three critical swing states that have played a decisive role in presidential elections for the past 50 years, U.S. television networks projected.
Obama had been expected to win Pennsylvania, with several opinion polls before the vote giving him a double-digit lead. Along with Ohio and Florida, Pennsylvania has had a major role in presidential elections for the past half century. No candidate has won the White House without capturing two of the three states since 1960.
The victory in the sixth most populous U.S. state gave Obama Pennsylvania's 21 electoral votes, a big step toward the 270 needed to take the presidency in the United States' indirect system of choosing a leader.
In the last few days John McCain was talking to his supporters in PA telling them in his conspiratorial voice that he was only down a couple of points in the state, but the (liberal) news media had written him off.
Then of course he would start his "fight for America" chant. I hate to say it, but if this is the real McCain (and if he's willing to play these games, it is) then the right man won between him and George W. Bush in the 2000 primary.
George Bush at least had some a sense of aloofness from the filth of his party.
Of course, Al Gore did win the general election in 2000, and that's when the trouble started.
