Excerpt Sign On San Diego report "SDG&E blamed for fire":
Butler, Pascanik and a neighbor say San Diego Gas & Electric Co. failed to make sure towering trees in the ravine were trimmed far enough from high-voltage power lines to avert disaster. The fire eventually burned nearly 9,500 acres and destroyed 206 houses.

Butler and Pascanik said they want to know why trees in the ravine, particularly a huge sycamore directly east of the transmission lines, weren't trimmed before the blaze.
A tree-trimming crew did appear after the fire started, however, one neighbor said.
Jed Jacops said he saw trimmers at the ravine at daybreak Oct. 22 – even as firefighters were battling the blaze nearby.
Looks like there was even an attempt to cover up the problem.
