Democratic senator Edward Kennedy was been hospitalized for a 'seizure' that is not considered to be related to 'a stroke' according to AP report "Spokeswoman: Sen. Kennedy hospitalized with seizure ". He was taken to Cape Cod Hospital this morning by emergency crews and then was airlifted to Massachusetts General according to Boston Globe article "Ted Kennedy hospitalized after suffering seizures " which reports that the senator suffered a second seizure on the helicopter.
Both reports remind us that Kennedy underwent surgery last fall to ease "a very high grade (AP)" blockage of the left carotid artery discovered during a check of an old injury suffered during a 1964 crash of a small airplane that killed two people. The Boston paper's report notes that similar blockage can be hiding in the sibling artery on the opposite side, but doctors decided that stress tests showed no need for such a procedure. the Globe also notes that one quarter of strokes are caused by carotid artery buildup.
And speaking of entities in danger of losing life, The Chicago Tribune hosts a pathetic report from the Dow Jones News Service based on a piece from the Cape Cod Times. The summary for the report at Google News shows they first got their info from a CNN report (possibly they got a call from a lawyer on that). We've been hearing from reporters fleeing or being dumped by Sam Zell's Tribune Corp that it was being gutted of most of its good talent. This appears to confirm their claims. Just becoming a conduit for AP reports would make the LA Times (the Zellow journalism for my area) little better than other locals, but better than what tends to pop up at the Chi Tri. Is that where the once world-class LA Times is heading?
