The four arrests came as some of the pirates went ashore to buy supplies.
A maritime group said authorities were negotiating with the hijackers, who had apparently attacked the wrong ship.
"Negotiations are going well," Andrew Mwangura, director of the Mombasa Seafarers Assistance Program, told Reuters.
"They might be released any time. ... The gunmen might be released by the authorities and given free passage home as they are the same clan as the Puntland authorities."
The pirates got the wrong ship apparently because it had already offloaded. Food is Africa's gold.
The report notes many other WFP ships being attacked as they near Somalia.
The
CNN International article (same title as above) also reports that piracy disappeared off the coast of Somalia during the rule of the "Islamists".
Now that the warlords are back in charge it's "game on" again.
Boy, we must be proud of our proxy war. It turns out that no al Qaeda biggies were found in Somalia after our buddy Ethiopia drove out the Islamists and US squads attacked areas by land and air killing many civilians.
And now Somalia is back under the thumb of the warlords and we can see by this incident how that has led to dangerous conditions.
While I'm glad that Somalians can elope and play their radios again, this seems a step down for the nation. Maybe there could be some kind of amalgam of Islamists and warlords formed. Or a deal made with the Islamists to keep al Qaeda out and let the people have a little more freedom.
But no, by definition Islamists are anti-globalization so the power nations of the world wouldn't stand for it. They are busy breaking the remaining nations that won't let their own poor see the country's natural resources sent to the rich world to be mostly thrown in the trash, while their children starve.
