Why are we sending our best and newest stealth aircraft to Okinawa?
I know we promised to protect Japan last summer from North Korean missiles, even the fancy fireworks they failed with last 4th of July.
And later we told our little buddies in Tokyo that we would protect them from the Big Bad Wolf's nuclear arms.
Unfortunately, the missile test was a failure.
The Nuclear Bomb test was a flub creating less than half a kiloton of energy -- out of plutonium no less. This made Gareth Porter (often found at Anti-War, but also found at other non-maintream news sites) the journalist of the year, in my eyes. He correctly forecast that North Korea did not have the technology to successfully ignite a plutonium bomb (which is much more difficult to trigger properly than an enriched Uranium bomb).
The fact that stealth bombers are arriving in Okinawa now during the "6 party talks" have to be about more than protecting Japan from Kim Jung Il, like helping keep up the pretense that we are wresting concessions from the frozen rocky Northern neighbor to our Seoul mates.
I guess it's better than people realizing that the
Bush administration basically capitulated to North Korea and is going full steam ahead back to the Agreed Framework that their Vast Right Wing Thought Police have so thoroughly trashed for over a decade.
