John Roberts the obedient underexperienced Chief Justice may be able to swing votes to block civil rights provisions in the workplace and the voting booth.
A Connecticut fireman says he got better scores that the minorities on a test so should get a job as a fireman before them. What multiplication and other school skills have to do with what a fireman can do is a mystery to me, and, obviously the test was about rote school work or it wouldn't have been a bad for minorities. Many cities have racist tests in their fire departments that deliver middle class jobs nearly exclusively to whites. To it's credit New Haven, Connecticut tried to stop using their racist test, but the applicant mentioned above has taken it to the Supreme Court, probably financed with money from race baiting organizations. And, unfortunately, the Supreme Court which basically overturned Brown V Board of Education last year looks like one which will remove minority protections at work, too.
Also Southern states have been bitching about meeting guidelines on fair voting act rules and want them overturned. "It's not 1965" they say. Um Florida 2000? How about the removal of minority names from the voting lists by a sleazy company, and the blocking of roads in minority neighborhoods and police check points keeping people away from polls in neighborhoods that usually voted Democratic? Reports came out the the Republicans even worked to keep overseas military votes from democratic leaning districts reduced while pushing for the count of late military votes from Republican leaning districts> That wasn't 1965 either. That's right in this decade. See LA Times report "Supreme Court might change civil rights law " for details.
