For over 3 decades John McCain has been covering for the US government and Vietnam over prisoners who were kept behind by the Asian nation hoping for a large ransom. The deal never went through and as time went by the deal became embarassing to the US and Vietnam.
I guess it was embarrassing to John McCain too, who made so much professional and then political capital over not leaving other prisoners behind. But, in the years just after his release, were tales of military or political money and power what kept the former POW that Republicans whispered key to keeping McCain silent over the decades?
I used to think that the POW flag was a gimmick for the right wing, but those were people, human beings, that were left behind
Can you imagine the long dark years that John McCain sentenced you to with his secrecy? If they even stopped the torture, and why would they if they wanted the US to pay up quickly, there was still the inadequate food and inadequate protection from the weather.
And from many accounts and Sydney Schanberg's investigations, John McCain covered up for all administrations since his release in the power seeking path he's taken. The journalist also says that after some years it is likely that the prisoners who hadn't died from the horrendous conditions had been executed.
This is worse than the way the senator has treated women personally and politically.
McCain talks about the Christian faith of a Vietnamese guard who eased some of his suffering, but can McCain say he has such faith after leaving people behind in those prisons? The Bible says that by their fruit you will know them.
No wonder McCain goes to church less than Obama.
I'd be scared, too.
