I also contend that what is at stake here is cheap (free) land for 'settlers'. Imagine the popularity of the government that can offer such a deal for adventurous types. That's why Olmert wanted to seize Lebanon up to the Litani when Israel was considering giving back West Bank. What politician dares go against the hunger for cheap land in Israel?

The side of a case before the US Supreme Court that gets more questions from the bench is statistically more likely to lose, but even more important is which side gets more negative words spoken about it (and the report did not indicate --to my understanding-- that those disparaging messages had to come from the bench). What's next? Rap slams at the Supreme Court? But one lawyer says study taught her to shut up when a judge was questioning the opposition.

Discussion of cities and economy of scale, but also of how Big Money co-opts (through their wheel greasing money) Judeo-Christian conservatives. Author believes all that money now is gone, but haven't we seen some of that bailout money we gave the big banks being diverted to politics especially surrounding EFCA? Also a lot of political donations can be hidden by donating to the Chamber of Commerce and other non profits w/o disclosure who can then use it for 'political education' as long as they refrain from endorsing specific candidates. Well, maybe it's not quite as long lasting, though I think I've read some posts from early newlists that come from the mid eighties. They were often approaching twitter like brevity. Even for the early adopters, scientists and computer geeks sending up anything on those sloooowwwww dial up connections from comparatively snail speed computers to glaciially updating BB services a little script was a big thing. The Above Linkblogs Might Contain "Borrowed" links.

Linkblogs do not substantially contribute traffic to my blog that I can discover. They all go offsite, and are often accessed from my blog. It's possible to access them from the RSS according to my settings. Still, even if I were to get ads clicking on a linkblog from the RSS won't drive more people to my blog than otherwise because they leave my resources. (Note to self, do more posts, less LBs with sources I find). I explain because I sometimes borrow links from people at Twitter, and often forget who put them up. (To fellow Twitterers: If you have a link to your blog, I will point it there, but Twitter, being impermanent, cannot hold your link for people to discover from there. I only 'borrow' them to get news out to as many people as I can who might not have seen the reports and videos found by the smart people I follow at Twitter or find in search rooms.

The Stories You Might Not Be Hearing: Israeli Intelligence Pushing Report that Syria's al Kibar Was to Produce Plutonium for Iran. Wants an Attack on Iran Soon.

posted 06-29-08

Most American news sources are ignoring this though at the CBS site Political Animal's Kevin Drum is calling it a rumor which is probably as it should be.

I saw articles on this first about a week ago, but only in the European  and Israeli press in which a claim is made by German News Magazine 'intellegence sources" had discovered that North Korea, Syria, and Iran were all into the deal at al Kibar, which Iran supposedly sharing in the produced plutonium.

Excerpt:

According to intelligence reports seen by SPIEGEL, the Syrian facility at Al Kibar that Israeli jets bombed last September was the site of a secret military project. The report states that North Korean, Syrian and Iranian scientists were working side by side to build a reactor to produce weapons-grade plutonium. Sources say that the Iranians were using the facility as a "reserve site" and had intended sending the material back to Tehran. While the Iranians had made great progress in the development of uranium, it is alleged that they required the help of the North Korean experts when it came to plutonium technology.

This should have hit the US newsstands within days, at least by Monday when the article was to be published Amazingly it was scooped by AFP and other European sources two days before the article appeared and. (Was it leaked from the printer's shop?).  But I waited and saw next to nothing.  A few days later a Guardian article  dealt with the subject, but by that time it had been learned that Israeli intelligence was behind the leak of info.

Excerpt Guardian " ":

Israel believes that Syria was planning to supply Iran with spent nuclear fuel for reprocessing into weapons-grade plutonium from the site it bombed last September, and which is currently being inspected by the UN's nuclear watchdog.

It's unlike the US press corps to not jump on anything that points fingers at 'evil' Iran, but apparently this time they did.

From Political Animal " "  handles it this way:

The latest — report? speculation? gossip? let's go with gossip — the latest gossip about that Syrian nuclear facility that the Israelis bombed last year is that it was actually a joint Syrian-Iranian operation

And linked from the side is a report titled " " which can lead to a reah "Well Duh! moment, but it is true that many Americans won't believe something until mainstream news declares it.  This report also notes that Israel might start the job itself.

Excerpt report linked immediately above:

"The Israelis have been assured by the Bush administration that the Bush administration will not allow Iran to nuclearize," Oren said. "Israelis are uncertain about what would be the policies of the next administration vis-à-vis Iran."

Israel's message is simple: If you don't, we will. Israel held a dress rehearsal for a strike earlier this month, but military analysts say Israel can not do it alone.

"Keep in mind that Israel does not have strategic bombers," Oren said. "The Israeli Air Force is not the American Air Force. Israel can not eliminate Iran's nuclear program."

The U.S. with its stealth bombers and cruise missiles has a much greater capability. Vice President Cheney is said to favor a strike, but both Mullen and Defense Secretary Gates are opposed to an attack which could touch off a third war in the region.
