U.S. Plays Footsie With Sudan Hampering Sanctions over Genocide

Wha?????

Now why in the world would we do that?

Can you guess why we are in bed with genocidists (besides the fact that we're genocidists too)?

The keyword has to do with our little failing in human rights sphere (well our biggest one).

We get intelligence from Sudan about the Iraq insurgency. 

Just like the Cold War created corrupting bedfellows, our new long war for resources for Republican campaign contributors is hurting our human rights record.

Excerpt LA Times report "U.S. relies on Sudan despite condemning it": 

some critics say the administration has soft-pedaled the sanctions to preserve its extensive intelligence collaboration with Sudan.

Contact with the Islamic Courts Union of Somalia have been available through Sudan, as well according to another part of the report.

  Though, of course, normal contacts, as in calling the dudes up and saying "let's talk" would have been good too.  But no, we had to kick out the "Islamists" and put the warlords back in charge of the Eastern African nation through a proxy invasion by Ethiopia.

 European sources have said that the post Islamic Court Union Somalia is back to the worst of failed state conditions, once again.  Thanks Mr. Bush.
