I was reading Haaretz on my phone when I came across a colorful ad for "Americans for Peace Now".
I couldn't access the linked page on the mobile, but it came up the next time I read a Haaretz piece on the laptop so I clicked.
I thought I'd see a fully fleshed site and group, but found only the admonition to tell my representative to vote for such and such law now!
The explanation of what I was supposed to be pushing was vague, but luckily they had a link they said would give the body of the bill. [Change:now it says complete statements from the Rep who was sponsoring the bill, Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fl) It may always have been that way. I was reading late at night] It gave me their explanation of the body of the bill though and told me enough.
The bill would take money away from UNWRA, the UN's humanitarian wing that does so much to repair what Israel destroys.
It also calls the UN an anti-semite organization.
Yeah, that's when I bid them goodbye.
[While I was looking for the Rep's name this morning I also say something from the body of his statement:
I think we've learned from our own awful experience in Iraq that between politics and security, security has to come first.
Actually, no, Mr. R. Security does not trump political solutions. One of the most important political solutions was the deal with the Sheiks of Anbar to get their people to work for us. That actually was more important than the "surge" which was a political gimmick tacked on to the Anbar Awakening to capitalize on the already achieved sectarian division as the Republican "solution" to the problem.
Scientific evidence (satellite pictures of lights at night in Iraq, and other analyses have proven that).
So what the Rep's words mean is that the US should continue and possibly increase sending weapons to Israel so they can commit war crimes with them and just by happenstance, while achieving 'security' with them, wipe out the natural owners of the land they want to exploit. (Well, a docile remnant of Palestinians will be welcome to work in fields, factories, and shops at menial jobs. That's the message I take away from the Gaza action, and the Jenin action. The message that can be taken away from the action on Lebanon is that this doesn't stop at the borders of Israel-Palestine like most Americans hope. I've been informed that Israelis are actually moving into parts of Iraq. Thank the over 4000 combat dead, the suicided, sickness, and accident unreported dead, and the ruined lives of the many more wounded troops for that.)]
