The Los Angeles Times reports that the wife of the L.A. City Attorney and (Paris Hilton critic) received ticket while driving with suspended license. (License suspension was ignored and woman was ticketed only for driving violation.) OK That's funny, but there is a more ominous side to this and another report that the LA Times is making a big deal about though they have no proof even of any real problem in that one.
The reporter,, ignores bigger story of why he got the report. City Attorney and LA County District Attorney are locked in race for county position. Think that had something to do with the leak to reporter? The journalist fails to note such a possibility.
An AP report a decade ago noted that mostly the Republican party and their candidates funnel bad news about their opponents or even about any member of the opposing party to the press giving reporters virtually free news. In return the newspapers give the Republican candidates negative news about their opponents. (I hope you can see that this would then work out to be an example of Quid pro Quo). If this news is identified as prompted by one candidate or the other then that is somewhat okay, but it doesn't look like a scoop and isn't admired as investigative journalism.
I think that someone should investigate why the LA Times keeps getting "secret information" about Rocky Delgadillo while a campaign is on. We need to put an end to any control of news by political parties and candidates.
And the first way to do that is to expose it.

In the report I refer to in that post it appears that a reporter squelched inconvenient news for the Guiliani campaign.
If we don't make a fuss about the way news is manipulated to favor the most neocon of candidates, we can kiss true democracy goodbye.
